Growing in several farm orchards in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, this West Midlands culinary apple can also be used to make a bittersweet cider. In the 1800’s it was thought to be used extensively throughout the ‘Valley of the Severn’, supplying markets in the manufacturing districts, owing to its qualities of travelling well without bruising.
Grows strongly to produce a sturdy tree, and documented as having considerable disease resistance. Ripe early in the season and cooks to a tangy puree.
